On Friday (13 January), Chris Skidmore MP published an independent review of Net Zero, exploring progress on the UK's pledge to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

ACE and its members previously inputted into the consultation process, and we are delighted to see recommendations made around the development of an overarching strategy, as well as positive steps around funding consolidation for Net Zero and R&D, and support for development of “green skills”.

In our media response, ACE CEO Stephen Marcos Jones said: “We welcome the specific focus of using infrastructure to unlock Net Zero and support the ambition to develop a cross-sectoral Infrastructure Strategy by 2025.”

“Our members at ACE, with a unique role in the supply chain as the delivery partners of choice for government – as well as in-depth specialist technical knowledge and understanding – are well placed to support the delivery of this Review.”

The review underlines the potential for economic growth, even in the face of current macro-economic challenges, calling it “the economic opportunity of the 21st Century” and sets out six pillars for continued progress: (1) securing Net Zero; (2) Powering Net Zero; (3) Net Zero and the Economy; (4) Net Zero and the community; (5) Net Zero and the individual; and (6) Net Zero and the future.
